Risë Kevalshar Collins is an American artist of African ancestry. She earned a BFA in Drama at Carnegie Mellon University, and was a member of the original Broadway production of Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow is Enuf. She earned an MSW in Clinical and Political Social Work at University of Houston and served as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas, Oregon, Washington State, and North Idaho. Risë earned a BFA in Creative Writing at Boise State University where she served on the editorial staff of Idaho Review. Her nonfiction appears in Michigan Quarterly Review, and The Texas Review; her fiction appears in North American Review, and in The EastOver Press Anthology of Rural Stories, 2023: Writers of Color; her poetry appears in The Indianapolis Review, Tupelo Quarterly, The Minnesota Review, ANMLY, and The Normal School. Risë will begin an MFA in creative writing program in fall 2024. She is the recipient of an Alexa Rose Foundation Artist’s Grant.
